In November, most of Twitter’s communications team was laid off when Musk cut the company’s staff to nearly half after taking over a month prior, reported The New York Times.
At the time, Michele Austin, the director of public policy for U.S. and Canada at Twitter wrote after being laid off, “I worked on some of the most challenging digital policy issues in the world.”

Joseph Nuñez, a former global communications manager at Twitter, wrote on LinkedIn that the former Twitter communications team’s “empathy, creativity, and willingness to show up at 100% every single day no matter what was deeply motivating.”

Why It Matters: Tesla has had no dedicated public relations department since October 2020, reported Electrek.

Emails from Benzinga sent to Twitter’s public relations email address have largely gone unanswered, while that has been the case for Tesla for a considerably longer period of time.
However, Tesla last year did pay a firm to monitor its workers on Facebook and social media amid a unionization push.
