- OpenAI temporarily shut down its popular ChatGPT service on Monday morning after reports of a bug that allowed some users to see the titles of other users’ chat histories.
- The titles were visible in the user-history sidebar that typically appears on the left side of the ChatGPT webpage, an OpenAI spokesperson told Bloomberg.
- OpenAI temporarily disabled the chatbot after the reports, the spokesperson said. The substance of the other users’ conversations was not visible. The spokesperson said a bug in an unnamed open-source software caused the problem.

- ChatGPT came back online Monday night. However, users’ chat histories remained missing as of late Monday night Pacific time.
- On Monday night, the spokesperson stated: “ChatGPT is now back online, and we are working to bring chat history back online as well.”
- OpenAI grabbed attention via its chatbot ChatGPT, proficient at answering questions and writing essays and poems, and image generator Dall-E 2, which turns language prompts into novel images.
- In January, Microsoft Corp MSFT inked a new multiyear, $10 billion investment with OpenAI. The deal followed its previous investments in 2019 and 2021.
