Elon Musk-owned Tesla Inc. TSLA is recalling 2,649 imported Model S vehicles in China.
What Happened: Tesla is recalling 2,649 imported Model S vehicles produced between Oct. 14, 2015, and Aug. 23, 2020, due to a defective front trunk latch, says a recall notice published on China’s State Administration for Market Regulation website.

The new recall is an extension of Tesla's recall in December 2021, the regulator said. Tesla then recalled vehicles after it was found that the front trunk might open by accident when the vehicle is moving, increasing risks of collision and posing a safety hazard.
“Users should drive the vehicle carefully before the vehicle is recalled for maintenance, and contact the service center for maintenance as soon as possible after the recall begins,” the notice said, adding that Tesla will check the secondary latch of the front trunk for all the recalled vehicles.
Last November, Tesla filed for a voluntary recall of 80,561 cars in China due to malfunctioning of the battery management system. Meanwhile, in the U.S., Tesla issued recalls for 362,758 vehicles in February.
Price Action: Shares of Tesla fell 0.8% in extended trading after closing at $192.22 on Thursday, according to data from Benzinga Pro.
