Putin Ally Says West Wants 'Dismemberment' Of Russia: 'NATO Countries Are A Party To The Conflict'

Vladimir Putin’s ally said the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, or NATO, member states are now a party to the conflict in Ukraine.

What Happened: Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev, in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta, said the West's main goal is to defeat Russia and its further dismemberment.

“The NATO countries are a party to the conflict,” Patrushev said, adding that the issue of aid to Ukraine by the “good” NATO will be a prominent subject at the “Summit for Democracy” scheduled by Washington in late March.

“They have made one big military camp out of Ukraine. They are sending weapons and ammunition to Ukrainian troops, providing them with intelligence, including with the help of a satellite constellation and a significant number of unmanned aerial vehicles. NATO instructors and advisers train the Ukrainian military, and mercenaries fight as part of neo-Nazi battalions,” he added. 

He added that the U.S. and its European allies are trying: to prolong this military confrontation. "They do not hide their main goal — the defeat of Russia on the battlefield and its further dismemberment.” 

Meanwhile, NATO on Sunday criticized Putin for his "dangerous and irresponsible" nuclear rhetoric after Russia said it plans to station tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus in response to the U.S. stationing its weapons in Europe.
