Though Elon Musk’s Twitter threatened to wind down the legacy verified program and stop non-subscribers from accessing a handful of features, it appears not everyone is still sold on the idea of paying $8 per month.
What Happened: Despite facing massive backlash from users and experts alike for monetizing the verified checkmark, Musk launched Twitter Blue paid subscription model and told legacy verified accounts to either get on board or lose some privileges, including the blue badge.

While many celebrities and prominent account holders like the White House, NBA player LeBron James and the New York Times publicly spoke against paying for Twitter Blue, others support Musk’s decision.
What Happened: On Wednesday, social media commentator Matt Navarra took to Twitter to highlight an Apple Inc. AAPL iOS shortcut that allows users to check whether an account has paid for a Twitter Blue subscription or not.
The iOS shortcut app is called Checkmate. Users simply need to use the share button on any tweet or user to avail of this feature.
Here’s what the results of the testing looked like for some big names when Benzinga checked using the shortcut:
Jack Dorsey: Non-Subscriber
Dorsey, who said he was happy to have Musk join the Twitter board last year, has not subscribed to the paid model.
MrBeast: Subscriber
YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson, better known as MrBeast, is a Twitter Blue subscriber. Last year, Musk said MrBeast as Twitter CEO is “not out of the question.”
Shibetoshi Nakamoto: Subscriber
Dogecoin DOGE/USD co-founder Billy Markus, popularly known as Shibetoshi Nakamoto and a Musk supporter, is paying for the Blue subscription.
Snoop Dogg: Subscriber
In December, rapper Snoop Dogg expressed his intention to “run” Twitter and netizens were all for it.
Cristiano Ronaldo: Non-Subscriber
The Portuguese professional footballer with 108.2 million followers on the platform is not paying the Twitter Blue subscription fee.
Elon Musk: Subscriber
The Twitter CEO seems to be leading by example as he is a Twitter Blue subscriber.
