OpenAI launched the latest iteration of its internet-breaking artificial intelligence or AI tool called chatGPT last month, but unlike its predecessor, released in November last year, this one is not free. So, how can one access this latest AI-powered platform?
What Happened: If you are using the free version of chatGPT, it’s taking you to GPT-3 iteration — OpenAI’s most popular version so far. However, if you are ready to pay some quick bucks, the platform will redirect you to GPT-4, the latest version in the house.

According to OpenAI, “GPT-4 is available on chatGPT Plus and as an API for developers to build applications and services.”
So, here’s how you can also get this new marvel:
Step I: Open the chatGPT site.
Step II: Upgrade to the premium version by clicking the “Upgrade to Plus” tab from the sidebar.
Step III: Now, a small window on your screen will show you a comparison between the free and Plus versions.
Step IV: Follow the instructions on the screen, add your billing details and voila, you are ready to get access to GPT-4.
Bonus Step: When a new chat window opens, a pulldown will offer you the option to use either the GPT-4 version or its predecessors. This is because GPT-4 is slower than chatGPT 3.5 or other models. However, GPT-4 makes up for its relative slowness with far more accurate and complex interactions.
Why It’s Important: ChatGPT-4 has many impressive capabilities that open a new realm of use cases. This includes creating new applications with functioning code. It also has far superior visual input capabilities and can handle longer-form content of more than 25,000 words.
According to OpenAI, GPT-4 can pass the U.S. bar legal exam within the 90th percentile and scored 700 out of 800 — 110 points higher than ChatGPT-3 — on the math portion of the SAT test.
