Elon Musk's AI Researcher Was Arrested For Domestic Violence: Will This Derail TruthGPT Plans?

Elon Musk’s first known hire for his “maximum truth-seeking AI” platform was arrested last month — and it just adds more drama to the entire Musk-OpenAI feud

What Happened: Last month, Igor Babuschkin, who Musk hired to work on OpenAI’s rival TruthGPT, was arrested for domestic battery in Northern California.

Babuschkin was released from custody and the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office said the office had no plans to charge him with a crime, reported The Information.

Nevertheless, the arrest could potentially hinder Babuschkin’s efforts to establish the new company and attract talent.

Babuschkin was previously an AI researcher at OpenAI and Alphabet Inc.’s GOOG GOOGL DeepMind unit.

Musk aims to create a chatbot that is stripped of political correctness, referred to as an “anti-woke” version of OpenAI’s groundbreaking chatGPT

The latest development surfaced at a time when Musk, who has been fairly vocal about sharing his concerns about rapid artificial intelligence developments, spoke during an interview about starting TruthGPT or a maximum truth-seeking AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe.

The Tesla Inc. TSLA and Twitter CEO also criticized Microsoft Corp-backed MSFT OpenAI — the parent company of chatGPT, which he co-founded in 2015 — for “training the AI to lie” and transforming into a “closed source” for-profit organization.

Why It’s Important: Previously, it was reported that Musk had assembled a team of AI researchers and engineers and secured thousands of high-powered GPU processors from Nvidia Corp NVDA.

Musk reportedly wanted to run OpenAI alone, but fellow co-founder Sam Altman and others rejected his proposal.
