The leader of the Republican Party’s Senate campaign on Monday endorsed ex-president Donald Trump for the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
What Happened: Steve Daines is the most prominent Republican in that chamber to support Trump's bid to reclaim the White House.
Daines announced his support for the former U.S. president during an episode of the Triggered podcast, hosted by Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr., reported Politico.
"The best four years I've had in the U.S. Senate was when President Trump was serving in the Oval Office," Daines said, praising Trump's tax reform and his efforts to remake the courts.
"For these reasons and many others I'm proud to endorse Donald J. Trump for president of the United States."
Why It Matters: Daines, as the chair of National Republican Senatorial Committee chair, has the responsibility of helping his party in regaining control of the Senate. By endorsing Trump, Daines indicates a level of ease with the former president leading the Republican ticket.
This came after Former Maricopa County Sheriff, Joe Arpaio, also known as “America’s Toughest Sheriff,” also endorsed Trump for the 2024 Presidential race on Sunday.
