Tim Cook Sends Wishes To Hit-And-Run Survivor Who Credits Apple Watch For Saving His Life

Apple Inc. AAPL CEO Tim Cook has wished a speedy recovery to a hit-and-run victim who claimed his life was saved by Apple Watch’s fall detection feature.

What Happened: An Apple user from Eagan, Minnesota, named Michael Brodkorb, was hit by a car in front of his driveway in April. He suffered several injuries, but the vehicle that hit him didn’t stop, reported CBS News.

Brodkorb credits his Apple Watch for saving his life, as it automatically called 911 and texted his family after sensing a severe impact that made him unable to stand.

“Took a few steps out into the street and the car came around the corner and just hit me,” he said, adding that he was “shocked” by the force of the impact.

While the victim recuperates from his injured ribs and tailbone, he has received encouragement from Apple’s CEO. Brodkorb sent an email informing Cook about the accident and received a heartwarming message, the report noted.

“[He] wished me a speedy recovery and let me know that this is why they design these type of features,” Brodkorb said.

Why It’s Important: This isn’t the first time an Apple product has been credited with saving someone’s life or Cook responding to users’ messages.

In November last year, Apple CEO responded to an Indian teenager, for whom Watch Series 7 worked as a miracle after he slipped 130 to 150 feet into a valley.

In January this year, a 59-year-old English woman said that Apple Watch saved her life after it alerted her about an irregular heart rhythm, which doctors later diagnosed as a heart block.

Apple Watch Series 7 also played a role in saving the life of a Reddit user after alerting them about a racing pulse rate, which led to the diagnosis of severe internal bleeding.

According to the tech giant, Apple Watch SE or Apple Watch Series 4 or later can detect hard falls and help users connect to emergency services if needed.
