Tesla Inc TSLA CEO Elon Musk on Tuesday gave an update on the Cybertruck at the annual shareholder meeting.
What Happened: Musk said that Tesla is going to deliver the Cybertruck later this year.
“We are finally going to deliver Cybertrucks later this year,” Musk said. “If anything, it is better than expectations.”
The CEO said that the Cybertruck is extremely hard to make given that it is a “radically new design.” Conventional manufacturing techniques cannot be used and hence Tesla had to invent new techniques to make an exoskeleton-based car instead of an endoskeleton one, Musk said.
“Cybertruck is the car I will be driving on a day-to-day basis,” Musk added.
Why It Matters: Since its unveiling in 2019, the Cybertruck has been one of the most anticipated product launches from the Tesla stable and one of the most hyped vehicle launches of all time.
In a February tweet, Musk said that handling demand for the Cybertruck won’t be an issue, but "ramping production" will likely be a challenge.
When it finally arrives, the Cybertruck will be up against Rivian Automotive Inc's RIVN R1T and Ford Motor Company's F Lightning EV pickup truck.
