Trump Will Be 'Very Exposed' If Playing Games With Mar-A-Lago Probe: Former AG Barr

Former Attorney General Bill Barr on Thursday warned that the investigation into former President Donald Trump's handling of classified documents could leave him "very exposed."

What Happened: Barr, in an interview with CBS News, said that it was "very clear" that Trump should not have had the classified documents found at his Mar-a-Lago residence last year.

"It doesn't go a lot on intent or anything like that. It's very clear that he had no business having those documents," Barr said.

"He was given a long time to send them back. And they were subpoenaed."

"And I've said all along that he wouldn't get in trouble, probably, just for taking them, just as Biden, I don't think, is going to get in trouble or Pence is not going to get in trouble."

"The problem is what did he do after the government asked for them back and subpoenaed them? And if there's any games being played there, he's going to be very exposed," he added.

Why It Matters: Trump's former ally Barr has recently turned negative towards the ex-president, stating that the former U.S. leader cannot win the next election and is a "weak candidate." However, he has previously said he would still vote for Trump if he became the Republican candidate.

Special counsel Jack Smith is currently investigating Trump's handling of important secret documents. New details uncovered by Smith reportedly demonstrate that Trump and his key advisors were aware of the proper procedure for declassifying documents during his tenure at the White House.
