Is Apple's Vision Pro Headset Worth It? Top Tech Reviewer Gives Honest Review

On Monday, during its annual Worldwide Developers Conference 2023Apple Inc. AAPL revealed the highly anticipated Vision Pro mixed reality headset. However, the device comes with a hefty price tag of $3,499, leading many to question its worth as an investment.

What Happened: Tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee, known for his honest reviews, had the opportunity to try out the Vision Pro headset and shared valuable insights for potential buyers. In his approximately 20-minute YouTube video, Brownlee described his experience since video recording with the device has not been possible yet.

Brownlee highlighted that Apple’s Vision Pro eliminates the need for additional accessories as users can control the headset using their hands, eyes, and voice. For instance, clicking on something is as simple as touching the thumb and index finger, while typing messages can be done by speaking into the headset’s microphones or looking at a search box.

The YouTuber was particularly impressed with the eye-tracking sensors of the headset’s first-generation, noting their accuracy and responsiveness.

Why It Matters: “Even for a pre-release product, it’s kind of unbelievable how well it does. Anytime you move your eyes around the UI, it would immediately highlights and select exactly what you are looking at. No matter how small the target was,” he said.

He also mentioned the FaceTime feature, which creates a 3D-rendered model of the user’s face, matching their movements using the headset’s eye tracking and other sensors.

However, Brownlee mentioned that the headset feels somewhat heavy, unlike many other VR headsets made from lightweight plastic. While he acknowledged its solid build quality, he expressed concerns about extended usage beyond the 30 minutes he tested.

The Apple Vision Pro Headset is set to launch in the U.S. in early 2024, with subsequent releases in other countries later in the year.
