Nikki Haley Questions Trump's Actions As Ex-President Arrives In Miami: 'Incredibly Reckless' If Charges Prove 'True'

GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley said Donald Trump was "incredibly reckless" if the federal charges levied against him in an indictment over the former president's handling of classified documents at his residence were true.

What Happened: While Trump-era United Nations Ambassador, in an interview on Fox News, criticized taking of classified documents that detail U.S. military maneuvers, she also rebuked the FBI and the Department of Justice for treating the ex-president unfairly.

"This is what I'll tell you, two things can be true at the same time: One, the DOJ and FBI have lost all credibility with the American people, and getting rid of just senior management isn't going to be enough to fix this. This is going to take a complete overhaul, and we have to do that," Haley said.

"Two, the second thing can also be true. If this indictment is true, if what it says is actually the case, President Trump was incredibly reckless with our national security," she said.

Haley talking about her husband, Michael Haley – a commissioned officer in the South Carolina Army National Guard – said If Trump committed this crime, “this puts all of our military men and women in danger.”

"if you are going to talk about what our military is capable of or how we would go about invading or doing something with one of our enemies. And if that's the case, it's reckless, it's frustrating and it causes problems," she said.

Why It Matters: Haley’s remarks follow closely on the heels of Trump’s recent federal indictment, which includes 37 counts related to his handling of classified documents discovered at his Mar-a-Lago residence.

The former president arrived in Miami before his court appearance Tuesday. Trump is the first former U.S. president to face federal charges. The ex-president has maintained his innocence and called the indictment "a disgrace."
