Truecaller Brings Back Call Recording, But This Time You Have To Pay For It

Caller identification application Truecaller has reintroduced the call recording feature for both iOS and Android smartphones, but this time around, it is available only for premium users of the service.

What Happened: Truecaller's call recording feature is rolling out for premium users in the U.S., with other markets expected to follow soon. The feature is available on both iOS and Android platforms.

While both operating systems have restrictions to prevent call recording natively, Truecaller is working around this problem by calling a dedicated recording line.

The feature records both sides of the call, and the other party on the call will be indicated about the call being recorded with a beeping sound.

Apart from call recording, Truecaller will also provide summarized call transcripts to users using artificial intelligence (AI).

Here's How It Works: Call recording is relatively easier on Android thanks to the Truecaller dialer. Users can set it as default and enable call recording in the app – Truecaller will handle the rest.

If users have another dialer set as default, Truecaller will show a floating recording button. Users will have to tap on it once the call is in progress.

On iOS, users must call a recording line for incoming and outgoing calls through the Truecaller app.

Truecaller introduced the call recording feature back in 2018 for the first time, making it available only to premium subscribers. It was eventually made available to free users as well, but Truecaller removed the feature following Google's GOOGL restrictions in 2022.
