If you use Google Search, chances are you could be entitled to a share in the Alphabet Inc.-owned GOOGL company's $23 million settlement in a 2010 lawsuit. Google has agreed to a payout in the lawsuit; now, there are details about how eligible users can claim.
What Happened: Google has agreed to pay $23 million to affected users in a 2010 lawsuit alleging that the company had shared search terms with advertisers and third parties without their consent.

The lawsuit also alleged that this could have revealed users' personal information, violating the Stored Communications Act.
Despite denying lapses on its part, Google has agreed to settle the lawsuit and pay eligible users. If you remember using Google Search in the impacted period, you might just be eligible.
Each eligible user is estimated to receive $7.7 if their claim is approved, but the final claim may vary.
How To Claim: If you are a U.S. citizen and remember using Google Search between Oct. 26, 2006, and Sept. 30, 2013, you can claim your share in the $23 million settlement.
The last date to submit claims is July 31.
Here's how to file your claim:
- Head over to refererheadersettlement.com.
- Once on the page, click on the ‘Registration Form' button, enter your details, and click ‘Submit'.
- You will now receive a ‘Class Member ID'.
- Head to the ‘Submit Claim' page, enter your ID, and submit.
