Meta Platforms Inc.'s META instant messaging platform, WhatsApp, has reportedly been working on multi-account support as it plans to catch up to rival Telegram in the battle for feature parity

What Happened: WhatsApp appears to be on the verge of revolutionizing its messaging experience by introducing multi-account support, a feature that its users have highly sought after.

The latest WhatsApp Business beta for Android 2.23.13.5 has been found to contain references to this much-anticipated functionality, allowing users to log into multiple accounts on the same phone without the need for separate app copies, according to WABetaInfo.

The update would bring convenience and efficiency to those who use dual-SIM functionality on their phones, enabling them to seamlessly manage conversations, notifications, and file sharing across multiple accounts within a single app.

With this significant development, WhatsApp users can soon bid farewell to the cumbersome process of app cloning and embrace a more streamlined and versatile messaging experience.

When Will It Release: While the exact timeline for the public release remains uncertain, the imminent arrival of multi-account support on WhatsApp demonstrates the platform’s plans to close the feature gap with competitors like Telegram.

Why It's Important: In April 2023, WhatsApp introduced a new feature that enables users to access a single account on multiple devices simultaneously. Previously, this capability was restricted to browsers, computers, Android tablets, and the primary phone.

However, the platform allows individuals to utilize the WhatsApp app on up to four smartphones concurrently.

In October last year, Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, accused WhatsApp of functioning as a surveillance tool for 13 years. He referred to the phone hacking incident involving Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.com, in 2020 and emphasized that having WhatsApp installed on one’s device makes all the data from every app on that device accessible, regardless of the user’s wealth or status.
