In the world of online content creation, renowned YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson, popularly known as, MrBeast, finds himself increasingly exasperated as the prevalence of photoshopped thumbnails continues to surge, prompting an outcry from netizens who are now urging Alphabet Inc.'s GOOG GOOGL YouTube to adopt a Twitter-like feature to combat the issue.
What Happened: During the weekend, MrBeast took to Twitter and shared a screenshot of a YouTube video with the title "MrBeast's Disease Is Worse Than You Think" that featured a fake tweet by the popular YouTuber stating, "I will be dead in 3 years."
Obviously, the tweet was never posted by Donaldson. In fact, it was the classic example of photoshopped thumbnails circulating on YouTube.
These manipulated images, designed to deceive viewers, have become an ongoing concern for MrBeast and his dedicated fan base. As a result, netizens have taken to social media to join forces, urging YouTube to implement a Twitter-like feature, "Community Notes," that would provide users with the necessary context to the misleading or fake information on the platform.
Why It's Important: Community Notes was formerly known as Birdwatch, which Elon Musk-owned Twitter reintroduced in December 2022. The feature enables users to add notes to tweets that might be misleading.
The tech billionaire previously said that the Twitter Community Notes would identify false statements on the platform. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has also commended the Community Notes feature, stating that the purpose of adding such flags is to improve user experience rather than to remove information.
