Trump's 'Fact-Finding Mission' On Former Ally Mark Meadows Ended In Frustration: Report

Earlier this year, Donald Trump reportedly sent a group of legal advisors and political advisers to find out about his former White House chief of staff, Mark Meadows. 

What Happened: On what can be described as a “small fact-finding mission,” by Rolling Stone sources, the former president wanted to know what Meadows was up to.

Trump and his team were particularly curious about Meadows’ interactions with Justice Department investigators and Special Counsel Jack Smith‘s office regarding the former president's alleged attempts to undermine the 2020 election and the classified documents found at his Mar-A-Lago residence.

However, the extent of Meadows’ cooperation and the information he provided to the authorities remained an enigma, causing frustration for Trump and his team, the report added.

Why It Matters: Months back, Meadows and his attorney severed ties with Trump allies, a move that has added to the challenge of safeguarding the twice-indicted former president from facing more severe legal consequences. 

According to The New York Times, Meadows had indeed provided testimony before the grand jury earlier this month. However, the information regarding the specifics of his testimony and the particular subjects it pertained to weren't disclosed.
