Carl Pei-led consumer tech company Nothing is prepping for the launch of its second smartphone; now there are rumors that we might get to see a smartwatch from the brand soon.
What happened: Popular Indian leaker Mukul Sharma has shared proof of the existence of the Nothing smartwatch, which hints that the company might venture into the wearable category in the coming months.
Earlier this year, the company filed a trademark application for “CMF BY Nothing.” This trademark has now surfaced in a product certification listing associated with the model number “D395,” which strongly suggests that it may pertain to a smartwatch.

It is crucial to note that these trademark filings do not guarantee the actual release of a Nothing smartwatch. However, it indicates the company’s intentions and aspirations to enter the smartwatch market. Trademarks are often obtained to safeguard brand identity, but there remains the possibility that a Nothing smartwatch may never materialize.
The connection between these trademark findings and Pei is evident. Pei’s tweets from earlier in the year mentioned his use of a Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, demonstrating his interest in the smartwatch category. Although he didn’t find a good use case or reason to use the smartwatch, this still aligns with the company’s exploration of the smartwatch space. However, the specific nature and approach of the potential smartwatch are still under wraps.
Considering Nothing’s distinctive design philosophy, which emphasizes transparency, it raises questions about whether the smartwatch will adopt a similar approach.
The presence of “CMF” in the trademark is intriguing, as it typically stands for the Color-Material-Finish design process in product development. It leads to speculation about the possibility of a non-transparent Nothing product. As more information becomes available, we will soon uncover the answers to these speculations.
