Meta Platforms Inc META platforms shares are trading higher Wednesday. The company is set to launch a new app that will compete with Twitter on Thursday.
What To Know: Threads is Meta's latest social media app. It will connect to user's Instagram accounts and function similarly to Twitter.
The app description in the Apple App Store states, "Threads is where communities come together to discuss everything from the topics you care about today to what’ll be trending tomorrow. Whatever it is you’re interested in, you can follow and connect directly with your favorite creators and others who love the same things — or build a loyal following of your own to share your ideas, opinions and creativity with the world."
The social networking app is currently set to become available for download on Thursday.

The news of the launch comes just days after Elon Musk was criticized for putting limits on how many Twitter posts users can see on the social media platform.
Social media is not the only battle ground that Musk and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg could be meeting on. The two billionaires have tentatively agreed to fight each other in an MMA-style cage match.
UFC president Dana White recently said that a potential fight is being discussed. Although nothing has been confirmed, several sportsbooks have already placed betting odds on the match.
