Threads, Meta Platforms Inc.'s META Twitter clone, has attracted 10 million users in its first seven hours. But the way that Threads has been designed – and linked to Instagram – means that your Threads account is bound to Instagram. As a result, if you delete your Threads account, your Instagram account will also be nuked.
What Happened: Meta's privacy policy has a clause which states that to delete your Threads profile, you will have to delete your Instagram account.

"Your Threads profile is part of your Instagram account, and may be deleted at any time by deleting your Instagram account," says Meta's privacy policy.
"You may deactivate your Threads profile at any time, but your Threads profile can only be deleted by deleting your Instagram account," it adds.
Threads is an extension of your Instagram account. This was evident right from the moment Instagram allowed users to grab a Threads invite using secret codes on Instagram, to the onboarding process on its new app.
Threads not only link to your Instagram account, it also uses basic information like the name, username, birthday, and more from Instagram. Users can also prefill their bio and links on Threads from their Instagram accounts, and follow all their Instagram followers on the new app.
While it's not a surprise that the two services are linked, it is interesting that Meta has so intricately linked Threads and Instagram that one won't survive without the other. The most you can do is deactivate your Threads profile, but deleting it will require you to nuke your Instagram profile as well.
