Jim Cramer Says Ford Lightning EV Truck 'Better' Than Tesla's Cybertruck — Musk Responds

Prominent market commentator Jim Cramer believes Ford Motor Co‘s F electric truck Lightning is better than Tesla‘s TSLA upcoming Cybertruck.

What Happened: Cramer retweeted the picture shared by Tesla CEO Elon Musk from Friday when he took it out for a spin in Austin and said, “Ford Lightening better.” He clarified in a later post that ‘lightening’ was a typo.

Musk responded to the comment himself and said, “I can't tell real Cramer posts from fake ones!”

The CNBC Mad Money host said last week that he certainly isn’t buying a Cybertruck. Cramer called it a ‘toy’ for musk fanboys and added that it won’t be a mainstream product. He also termed the vehicle ‘hideous’ and the ‘the ugliest truck I have ever seen.’

Compared to Ford’s electric truck, it is not going to be nearly as appealing to the average truck buyer, Cramer had said.

“This thing is ugly. I’m sorry, and I love Tesla by the way,” Cramer said.

Why It Matters: Last month, Cramer said that there is ‘real value‘ in Ford more than the value captured by its $14 share price even with a 4.25% yield. Cramer said that he likes both Tesla and Ford but Ford has the potential to get back to its high of $25 from January 2022.

Ford CEO Jim Farley shares Cramer’s take on demand for the cybertruck. Last month, he dismissed the cybertruck as "a cool high-end product parked in front of a hotel." While the cybertruck is for Silicon Valley people, Ford makes trucks for real people who do real work, Farley said.

Musk said at Tesla’s recent annual shareholder meeting that the Cybertruck delivery event is scheduled for later this year.
