Elon Musk's decision to rebrand Twitter as ‘X', including replacing the iconic bird logo with an ‘X' mark, is not going down well with some of his prominent followers, but the billionaire wants to bet that people will start calling Twitter as ‘X' eventually.
What Happened: Over the weekend, Musk announced that Twitter will be rebranded as ‘X', but not everyone is happy about the decision to gut an iconic brand. Musk, however, believes that people will get over it eventually and start calling Twitter as ‘X'.

One of the prominent parody accounts that Musk follows, @alifarhat79, tweeted, "Twitter will be known as X but I'll keep calling it Twitter."
Musk responded, asking, "Wanna bet?", implying that he believes people will move on eventually and switch to the new brand name.
It's not the first instance of Musk becoming defensive about rebranding Twitter as ‘X'. Popular YouTuber MKBHD, who also owns a Tesla car, said, "I’m still gonna call it Twitter."
Musk reacted to this, too, saying, "Not for long."
When Ben Parr, co-founder of Octane AI, pointed out that Musk's decision to kill the Twitter brand is a "bad business decision", Musk retorted with a tongue-in-cheek "x". In gamer lingo, ‘x' is used to disagree or doubt someone's opinion.
Tweeting or X-ing? Tweeting was not the official term that Twitter used for users posting on the platform – it adopted the term from the third-party app Twitterific, which first coined the word "tweet". However, Twitter has since remained loyal to the term, but Musk's ‘X' rebranding is already confusing people.
Musk himself has not finalized what users will be called – from "viewers" to "nothing", and tweets being called "x's", Musk's ideas are all over the place.
When asked what retweets should be called, Musk said that the entire concept must be considered again.
Whether ‘X' will be a successful rebrand or not, only time will tell. But for now, Musk's obsession with the alphabet is killing an iconic brand and the much-loved bird.
