President Joe Biden has urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to advance a vote on Israel’s controversial judicial reform bill, The Hill reports.

In a statement given to Axios, Biden reiterated his concerns about the bill. The U.S. has previously expressed concerns about these reforms, with Biden hoping that Netanyahu "walks away" from the reforms.

“Given the range of threats and challenges confronting Israel right now, it doesn't make sense for Israeli leaders to rush this — the focus should be on pulling people together and finding consensus," Biden said.

Controversial Judicial Reform Bill: The bill, backed by Netanyahu, has sparked protests across Israel. The reform bill is viewed as a threat to democracy. It would allow the government to overrule Supreme Court decisions and give more power to the executive branch to appoint justices.
