Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 5 is shaping up to be a good upgrade compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip 4. Scheduled to launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 5, the fifth-generation foldable smartphone from Samsung is expected to address several user concerns.
What Happened: Samsung is all set to launch the Galaxy Z Flip 5 alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 5 at the Galaxy Unpacked event in Seoul, South Korea, on Wednesday. Although it is launching two new foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 has hogged most of the attention.
Samsung seems to be addressing multiple concerns of users, like the cover display's size and the hinge. This will also help it catch up with the increasing competition from Motorola and Oppo.

This Galaxy Z Flip 5 vs Galaxy Z Flip 4 comparison should help you understand which foldable phone to go for.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 vs Galaxy Z Flip 4: Four Notable Upgrades
1. Bigger Cover Display
The cover display will be one of the biggest and most noticeable changes with the Galaxy Z Flip 5 this year. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is rumored to sport a much larger 3.4-inch cover display, up from the 1.9-inch that features on the Galaxy Z Flip 4.
This should make the cover display more useful, allowing users to run widgets and apps specifically customized for it instead of using it just to check notifications. It will also help extend the life of the foldable display since users won't have to flip it open to perform even basic tasks.
2. Better Hinge
Another major upgrade to the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is the hinge – hinges are highly critical for foldable phones, and Samsung is expected to use a water drop hinge this time.
This will allow the area around the fold to roll up inside the body and avoid a glaring problem with foldable phones – the distracting crease.
A teaser from Samsung also hints at the ability to fold the phone completely flat, so lint and dust particles will have a harder time invading the phone.
3. Better Performance
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Inc. QCOM Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. This is a considerable upgrade from the Galaxy Z Flip 4, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset.
While it is not a generational upgrade, it still offers better performance than the previous chipset thanks to a new microarchitecture and TSMC's more efficient manufacturing process.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is also expected to feature faster UFS 4.0 storage, which promises to offer up to 45% more efficient performance compared to the previous generation.
4. Longer Lasting Battery
The more efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset will also help improve efficiency, which should help the battery last longer. We have seen a similar boost in battery life in the Galaxy S23 compared to the Galaxy S22 – with a meager 200mAh increase in capacity, the Galaxy S23 lasts nearly 2-3 hours longer than the Galaxy S22.
