Elon Musk's Fan-Following Dwindles, But Early Tesla Model 3 Owners Remain Loyal, Survey Finds

In a recent follow-up survey conducted by Bloomberg, the earliest owners of Tesla‘s original Model 3 reveal a shift in perception of CEO Elon Musk, if not that of the car.

Some even cited Musk as the reason for walking away from Tesla to another brand.

Musk’s Approval Ratings Drop: In July 2018, Tesla Inc. TSLA made a significant leap, ramping up production of its Model 3 electric car to over 5,000 units per week. This marked the company’s transition into a mature automaker, a move that Musk described as becoming a “real car company.” Following this, a survey was conducted to get a pulse of the first buyers.

While the Model 3 continues to receive high praise, the survey indicated a significant drop in Musk’s approval ratings. The most notable change in opinion was the reaction to Musk’s acquisition of Twitter in 2022, which he subsequently renamed X.

Many respondents also expressed disappointment with Musk’s controversial tweets and political online disputes.

The survey also revealed that 96% of Model 3 owners planning to buy a new vehicle in the next few years are considering electric options.
