Senator Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has had two previously unreported falls this year, including one at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on July 14, Business Insider reports.
What Happened: McConnell, 81, recently froze mid-sentence during a press conference. As questions about his health and age circulate, media reports have pointed out that McConnell has tripped and fallen thrice and even seriously injured himself once in 2023.
McConnell reportedly tripped and had a “face plant” while exiting from a plane at the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. His other fall occurred in February during an official trip to Helsinki, Finland.
McConnell was hospitalized in March after tripping at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Washington D.C., which left him with a concussion and a fractured rib.

Why It Matters: The recent falls and McConnell’s abrupt freeze during the press conference have raised questions about his health and the age of elected officials in the United States. McConnell, President Joe Biden and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) have had their health conditions and ages scrutinized. The incidents have reignited the ongoing conversation about the age of elected officials in the United States.
Recently, Elon Musk noted that this needs even a ‘constitutional amendment’ and a discussion on the need for term limits in Congress.
