Dianne Feinstein Caught Confused On Hot Mic, Told To Vote 'Aye' In Awkward Committee Moment

In a recent Senate Appropriations Subcommittee meeting, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), was caught in an awkward moment when she began reading from her prepared remarks instead of casting her vote. The incident occurred during a roll call for the defense appropriations bill, Fox News reports.

Confusion in the Committee: Feinstein, the oldest serving member of the Senate at 90, seemed to freeze when it was her turn to vote.

“Just say, ‘Aye,'” Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) advised her. Instead of registering her vote, Feinstein began to discuss her support for the bill, a process that was scheduled to occur after the roll call.

Feinstein’s Response: Feinstein was interrupted by a staff member who reminded her that the roll call was still in progress. After a moment of confusion, Feinstein laughed and cast her vote.

A spokesperson for Feinstein later explained that the meeting had been somewhat “chaotic,” leading to the senator’s confusion.

Feinstein’s Future: Feinstein, who has served California in the Senate since 1992, announced earlier this year that she would not be running for re-election in 2024. Despite her upcoming retirement, Feinstein has pledged to continue working on her legislative priorities, including wildfire prevention, drought mitigation, homelessness, and healthcare.

The incident also appears at a time when there is an increased conversation about the age of the Congress members in the aftermath of Sen. Mitch McConnell freezing mid-sentence and President Joe Biden falling on stage.
