Senior U.S. Senator John Cornyn visited Tesla Inc’s TSLA Gigafactory in Texas on Monday and met with CEO Elon Musk.
What Happened: The Texas Republican senator thanked Musk for the visit in a post on X social media platform and said, “Everything is bigger in the Lone Star State including Tesla’s Gigafactory Texas – the 2nd largest manufacturing facility in the U.S.!”
“Tesla’s impressive facility employs 10k Texans & is one of the many reasons why TX is leading in job creation,” he added. The post was adjoined by pictures of him in conversation with Musk and another of him aboard Tesla’s Cybertruck. Gigatexas, spanning across 2,500 acres, is home to the electric truck expected to be delivered later this year.
“AI, supply chains, critical minerals, SpaceX, China. No shortage of important topics to discuss with Elon Musk,” the senator wrote in a later tweet.
Why It Matters: Cornyn and Musk have long been supportive of one another. Only earlier this month, Cornyn shared a Wall Street Journal article on Musk’s SpaceX’s monopoly on launching rockets and wrote,
“The U.S. government increasingly depends on Elon Musk's SpaceX.” The senator, an avid X.com/ Twitter user, also shared an article on Musk’s proposed cage fight with Meta Platforms META CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
Musk, on his part, moved to Texas from California in 2020 and later in 2021 moved Tesla’s headquarters there. He also donated to Cornyn in 2020.
