Elon Musk's Tesla Reportedly Gears Up For Next-Generation 'Highland' Model 3 Launch

Elon Musk’s Tesla Inc. TSLA is reportedly on the brink of launching the next-generation Model 3, Electrek reports.

The new iteration of Tesla’s most affordable electric vehicle, originally launched in 2017, has been under development under the “Highland” program. The company has pushed back all new Model 3 delivery timelines in Europe to Q4 2023, with Model 3 Performance deliveries extending to January 2024. This unusual delay suggests a transition to the next-gen Model 3.

Produced at the Gigafactory Shanghai in China for the European market, the Model 3 has been subject to “global factory upgrades” and temporary production shutdowns, possibly linked to the new Model 3. Rumors suggest a switch to the new Model 3 production in China in the coming weeks.

The next-gen Model 3 is expected to feature design updates, chassis upgrades, and the new Hardware 4.0 self-driving technology. It may also be equipped with new battery cells from CATL for increased energy capacity and range.

An official announcement is anticipated by the end of the month.
