Following the recent indictment of former President Donald Trump, violent threats against former Vice President Mike Pence have resurfaced on “The Donald,” a popular extremist pro-Trump internet forum.
What Happened: Pence’s tweet about Trump’s indictment, in which he stated that “anyone who puts himself over the Constitution should never be President of the United States,” sparked a flurry of explicit death threats against him on the forum, Business Insider reported.
These threats echo the chants of “hang Mike Pence” heard during the Capitol riot over two years ago, according to the report.
“He knows he’s not going to get elected. His only goal is to take any votes away that he possibly can. He got his ticket into the club when he got that challenge coin after they certified the fraudulent election at 1 am on Jan. 7,” one person wrote on the forum.
“I want to watch his toes dangle in the breeze.”

“I favor the Day of the Axe. Everyone gets a swing at the abdomen. Stray dogs clean up the mess,” wrote another user.
“The Donald” is known as a hub for Trump supporters and extremists who frequently use the platform to express violent rhetoric against Trump’s rivals.
The forum was banned from Reddit in June 2020 and has been identified by the House Jan. 6 committee as a place where users “openly discussed surrounding and occupying the U.S. Capitol.”

Why It Matters: The demand surge for violent actions against Pence occurred following Trump’s indictment on Tuesday.
The former president appeared in court on Thursday in Washington, where he was formally charged and entered a plea of not guilty to four criminal counts linked to the Capitol riot.
Meanwhile, Pence may emerge as a pivotal witness in the case concerning Trump’s role in the 2020 election and the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
