Elon Musk has admitted that search on X (formerly Twitter) is broken after a user pointed out that they could not find a post on the platform and had to use Google Search instead. For this, he says that X's developers are working on an AI-powered solution that will go beyond just the search text.
What Happened: Musk revealed that X is working on a new AI-powered solution to fix search on the platform. However, unlike usual search options, this solution will go a step further to surface relevant results.

"We are working on semantic (AI) search. Will show posts of X that match the meaning of your search, not just the text," Musk said.
Search on most websites tries to find the exact match for the string of text entered by users. However, in cases where users don't know the exact text of their query, it becomes difficult to sift through the results.
Musk's new fix, called ‘semantic search', will also address this issue. If it works, users will be able to enter the meaning of their queries, and X will surface the most relevant results accordingly.
Why This Is Important: X under Musk has been trying to create a feature set that is lucrative enough to entice users to pay the $8 per month subscription fee for premium features like editing, longer posts, and more.
However, if users need help finding posts easily, that makes the platform, on the whole, less interesting. Users have instead been resorting to using search engines like Google to find posts on X. Fixing this issue could help X keep its users more engaged on the platform instead of switching to another website.
