Amazon Strikes Deal With Volvo's India JV For 1,000 Electric Trucks

Eicher Trucks and Buses, a joint venture between the Volvo Group VLVLY and Eicher Motors that operates under VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV), has sealed a deal with e-commerce giant Amazon.com Inc AMZN, targeting the electrification of Amazon’s delivery fleet in India.

What Happened? The pact will witness the roll-out of a whopping 1,000 electric trucks over the next five years, bolstering Amazon’s eco-friendly delivery mechanisms.

This green initiative will kick-start with the deployment of 50 Eicher electric trucks across key locales including Delhi, Manesar, and Gurugram.

Eicher crafted these digital-era trucks atop their existing EV platform, tailoring them for seamless cargo stacking with deck lengths varying from eight to 24 feet. Meeting operational nuances, they offer dual charging speeds, addressing issues like charging infrastructure availability, battery longevity, and efficient energy strategies.

Targeting future goals: “We are pleased to collaborate with Amazon as we begin pilots for Amazon’s e-commerce deliveries in Indore, Manesar, and Gurugram. This partnership reflects our commitment to promoting smart sustainable solutions and developing a zero-emission transport ecosystem,” noted Vinod Aggarwal, Managing Director and CEO of VECV, in a statement shared with Benzinga India.

Echoing his sentiments, Amazon India’s Abhinav Singh remarked on the unparalleled challenge of fleet transformation at this scale. He highlighted Amazon’s goal of incorporating 10,000 EVs into their delivery arena by 2025.
