Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell voices reservations about the rising trend of impeachment inquiries, especially the looming one against President Joe Biden, Business Insider reports.
As House Republicans gear up for a possible impeachment inquiry into President Biden, McConnell shared his concerns in an interview with the New York Times.
“Impeachment ought to be rare,” McConnell emphasized, adding, “This is not good for the country.”
House Republicans are focusing on unverified claims that Biden and his son, Hunter Biden, received bribes from a Ukrainian gas company. They are also delving into Hunter’s broader business engagements, seeking evidence of any involvement of then-Vice President Biden or influence on U.S. policy.
McConnell, who has been the Senate Republican leader since 2007, opposed both impeachments of former President Donald Trump. However, during Trump’s second impeachment trial in 2021, McConnell acknowledged Trump’s potential role in the events of Jan. 6 Capitol Hill riots.
