Trump Lawyers Seek Permission To Discuss Classified Information At Mar-A-Lago, Citing 'Immense Practical And Logistical Hurdles'

Donald Trump's defense attorneys have approached a federal judge with a request to allow the former president and his legal team to discuss classified information at a protected facility close to his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, reports The Washington Post.

The lawyers emphasized that no classified material would be transported there but only discussed.

This move is part of an ongoing legal tussle over the conditions under which Trump can access classified materials during the discovery process.

Trump is facing 32 charges related to illegally retaining national defense information at his Florida property. The government insists that Trump, like any other defendant, should only discuss classified details in a government-accredited Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility or SCIF.

"This request is based on the immense practical and logistical hurdles and costs that make it virtually impossible for President Trump to make regular trips to a public facility to discuss classified discovery material with counsel as necessary to conduct a defense consistent with the rights afforded by the Constitution," Trump's attorneys wrote.

They propose he be allowed to converse on classified matters in a “previously approved facility” near his home, noting the presence of the Secret Service at Mar-a-Lago.

U.S. District Judge Aileen M. Cannon will make the final decision.
