Trump's Shot At DeSantis? Former President's 2024 Team Warns GOP About Super PACs Blurring Campaign Lines: 'Voters Are Worried...'

The team working on Donald Trump‘s campaign has issued a warning to state Republican parties, cautioning them about super PACs that "act as de facto campaign arms," with its eye seemingly on party rival Ron DeSantis.

What Happened: A letter was dispatched by Trump’s 2024 campaign attorney, David Warrington, to all state Republican parties, arguing against super PACs, which are capable of raising and spending unlimited funds, conducting activities that directly benefit a candidate, or acting as unofficial campaign arms, AP News reported.

Although no specific organization was directly named in the letter, it appears to be targeted at the super PAC supporting DeSantis’ campaign, Never Back Down. This group has been assisting DeSantis’ campaign, including securing pledges of support from voters and featuring DeSantis as a special guest.

The letter serves as part of Trump’s strategy to use his influence over state Republican parties to consolidate his position.

The Trump campaign said the voters "are worried that the process will be hijacked by outside entities that would put the integrity of their party process and rules in jeopardy and that individual Republican voters in their state will have their votes diluted by non-party actors such as superPACs."

Erin Perrine, a spokesperson for Never Back Down, confirmed that their operations would continue to work within the law to achieve their goal of supporting DeSantis. DeSantis’ campaign has also admitted to leveraging the offers from Never Back Down to optimize their resources.

Why It Matters: This came after Trump recently expressed his reluctance to sign a GOP loyalty pledge during an interview on Newsmax. The pledge is a requirement for participation in the upcoming GOP presidential primary debate.

DeSantis has also previously expressed concerns about Trump’s ongoing legal issues potentially compromising the Republican Party’s prospects in the upcoming presidential election. These concerns come as Trump maintains a significant lead in the polls, despite multiple indictments and court cases.

A recent poll by Morning Consult reveals Trump’s continued dominance among Republican voters for the 2024 presidential election. Despite Trump’s lead, other Republican candidates, including DeSantis, are experiencing fluctuating fortunes.
