iPhone 15 Pro May Be Faster Than The Fastest Android Phones, Chip Rumors Suggest

Apple Inc.'s AAPL next-gen A17 Bionic chipset is expected to power the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. While Apple's silicon has usually been notably more powerful than Qualcomm Inc.'s QCOM, the gap between the two seems to be widening.

What Happened: The Apple A17 Bionic chipset has reportedly popped up on benchmarking platform Geekbench, delivering a 47% better performance than Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, which is expected to launch later this year, according to a tip by @NaveenTechWala.

The Geekbench score shows the A17 Bionic with a single-thread score of 3,269 points, while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has recorded a score of 2,223 points. This is a 47% gap between their performance.

Why Is It Important: Both the A17 Bionic and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipsets are the next-generation flagships of Apple and Qualcomm, respectively. While the A17 Bionic is expected to power the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is expected to power top-tier Android flagship phones like the Samsung Galaxy S24 series.

The A17 Bionic chipset's domination might not be all that surprising, but beating an upcoming flagship chipset from the closest rival by a 47% margin is what makes it jaw-dropping.

That's not where it ends, either – the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset's performance is also worse than last year's A16 Bionic chipset, which has recorded a single-thread score of 2,513 points.

Essentially, the fastest Android phone of late 2023 or early 2024 could end up being slower than 2022's iPhone 14.
