Elon Musk-led Tesla Expands Lineup With Budget-Friendly Model S And X Versions

EV giant Tesla Inc TSLA has launched two new versions of its higher-end Model S and X vehicles on its website.

What Happened: The new ‘standard range’ Model S and X are priced lower than the long-range vehicles by $10,000 and have a smaller range.

The Model S Standard Range: The new version can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and has a range of 298-320 miles. This is slower than the Long Range takes 0.6 seconds less to achieve the same acceleration and has a much higher range of 375-405 miles.

The Model S Standard Range starts at $78,490.

The Model X Standard Range: The Model X standard range can go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and has a range of 255-269 miles as opposed to the Long Range which has a much higher range of 330-348 miles and an ability to accelerate to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds.

The Model X Standard Range starts at $88,490.

Why It Matters: Tesla delivered a total of 466,140 vehicles in the second quarter with lower-end Model 3 and Y accounting for a majority of it. Tesla delivered 19,225 Model S/X vehicles in the second quarter and produced 19,489.
