Former President Donald Trump and 18 co-defendants have been instructed to surrender in Georgia by Aug. 25 following a multiple-charge indictment.
According to The Hill, the directive was issued late Monday by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. Willis also expressed her intention to try all defendants, aiming to commence the trial within half a year.
"I make decisions in this office based on the facts in the law," Willis said.
"The law is completely nonpartisan. That's how decisions are made in every case to date."
Trump and the others are charged with violation of Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. The charge alleges involvement in a “criminal enterprise” to illegally keep Trump in office.
The indictment is a result of Willis’ extensive investigation into Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. Willis denied any political motivations behind the investigation.
