Donald Trump condemns President Joe Biden’s reaction to the Maui wildfires in a recent video message, The Hill reports.
Trump lambasted President Biden for his “disgraceful” response to the Maui wildfires.
"To say no comment is oftentimes fine, but to be smiling when you say it, especially again such a tragedy as this, is absolutely horrible and unacceptable. It is a disgraceful thing that Joe Biden refuses to help or comment on the tragedy in Maui, just as he refused to help or comment on the train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio for a very, very long time,” he said.
The White House faced backlash for Biden’s vacation during the Maui fires, which have resulted in nearly 100 fatalities. In defense, press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre highlighted Biden’s collaboration with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). She emphasized FEMA’s active presence in Maui and the numerous agencies assisting on the ground.
President Biden had previously signed a disaster declaration for Hawaii and directed military aid for the wildfires. Trump, however, criticized the government’s unpreparedness and the subsequent response. He also commented on the Maui governor’s attribution of the fires to global warming. Experts note that climate change has influenced wildfires, including Maui’s recent blaze.
