Donald Trump on Tuesday criticized President Joe Biden after being indicted for the fourth time in Georgia on Monday for his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.
What Happened: Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social on Tuesday, announcing his intention to appoint a special counsel to investigate Biden’s overseas business dealings if he secures a second term in office.
“As soon as I am reelected, I will appoint a real special counsel… to look at all of these bribes, kickbacks, crimes as well as the shameless attempt to cover up,” Trump said in a video speech, calling Biden “a Manchurian Candidate.”

“These monsters, all controlled and coordinated by the DOJ and Radical Left Lunatics, are criminalizing political speech, a total shutdown of democracy!,” Trump said in a separate post.
Why It Matters: This isn’t the first time Trump has made such a vow; during the 2016 election cycle, he promised to appoint a “special prosecutor” to investigate Hillary Clinton‘s use of a private email server, a promise he did not fulfill during his tenure. Trump’s recent call for a special counsel against the Bidens is based on a recent Oversight panel report alleging the Biden family and its allies accumulated over $20 million from overseas.
Trump’s announcement comes in the wake of a series of indictments against him and his allies. Recently, Trump and 18 of his associates were charged in Georgia in connection to their alleged efforts to overturn Biden’s 2020 election victory.
This marks the fourth time that Trump has been indicted this year, further complicating his potential run in the 2024 elections. Trump’s conversation with Georgia Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, which he described as “an absolutely perfect phone call,” has been a focal point of these investigations.
Trump has also criticized District Attorney Fani Willis, accusing her of bias and alleging her involvement in meddling with the upcoming 2024 presidential campaign.
