Ron DeSantis Slams Biden's DOJ For Siding With China Over Florida Restrictions On Buying Land: 'Will Continue To Fight...'

Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis voiced his criticism on Tuesday against President Joe Biden’s justice department for opposing a state bill that restricts citizens from certain countries, including China, from purchasing land in Florida.

What Happened: DeSantis took to Twitter to express his disapproval of the Biden administration’s stance. He stated, “Biden's Department of Justice sided with Communist China against Florida's law prohibiting CCP-tied entities from buying land in Florida. I'm glad the federal judge made the correct decision and denied a preliminary injunction on SB 264. Florida will continue to fight against…”.

Notably, DeSantis’ comments followed a ruling by Judge Allen Winsor that denied American Civil Liberties Union’s request to block the law as it makes an effort to overturn it. The Union is representing Chinese citizens living in the Sunshine State, reported AP.

Earlier, DeSantis had signed bills like SB 264, which aimed to combat corporate espionage and higher education subterfuge by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and agents of Xi Jinping.

The bill, also known as ‘Interests of Foreign Countries', restricts governmental entities from contracting with certain foreign countries and limits the conveyance of agricultural lands to foreign principals, including those affiliated with Beijing. T

The legislation allows Chinese citizens with non-tourist visas to buy individual plots of land smaller than two acres and located at least five miles from military installations.

Why It Matters: The move by DeSantis to restrict land purchases by foreign entities, especially those tied to the CCP, underscores the growing tensions between the U.S. and China.

The legislation was framed in the context of national security, with concerns about foreign entities owning land near critical infrastructure and military bases.

The bill also resonates with a broader sentiment of curbing China’s influence in various sectors of the U.S. economy. Florida’s stance has sparked discussions in other states about the implications of foreign entities, especially from China, owning significant parcels of land.

The move is seen as a reflection of the broader geopolitical tensions and the strategic competition between the U.S. and China.
