President Joe Biden’s handling of the economy receives approval from just over one-third of Americans, according to a recent poll.
What Happened: As reported by Politico on Thursday, a poll by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found that only 36% of Americans approve of President Joe Biden‘s handling of the economy. The president’s overall performance received approval from 42% of the surveyed Americans.
The poll results align with previous studies on Biden’s economic management. In June, the approval rating stood at 34%, slightly increasing to 37% in July. Despite the administration’s efforts to promote its economic policy, known as “Bidenomics,” only 34% of respondents described the economy as very or somewhat good.
The research findings also indicated that a significant portion of Americans, around 23%, hold strong faith in Biden’s skill to proficiently oversee White House operations. Looking ahead to the 2024 presidential election, only 24% of surveyed Americans expressed a desire for Biden to run again.

Carried out between August 10 and 14, the survey encompassed 1,165 adult participants and comes with a sampling error margin of approximately 3.8 percentage points in either direction.
Why It Matters: These poll results come at a time when President Biden continues to be a frontrunner for the 2024 presidential election, potentially going up against Donald Trump or Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Polls showed conflicting predictions for a potential rematch of the 2020 elections.
By mid-August, despite facing a third indictment, Biden was still leading Trump in the polls for the 2024 election, as reported in another Benzinga article. However, the low approval rating for his economic policy might be a growing concern for the Biden administration, given the importance of economic performance in influencing voters’ decisions.
Moreover, a Benzinga report from August showed Biden holding a lead over both Trump and DeSantis in the 2024 election polls. Yet, the recent AP-NORC poll showing only a quarter of Americans expressing a desire for Biden to run again might indicate a shift in public opinion.
