Republican National Committee (R.N.C.) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel anticipates Donald Trump might sign the party’s loyalty pledge for the upcoming primary debate, The Hill reports.
McDaniel expressed her “feeling” that the former President will sign the party’s loyalty pledge if he opts to join next week’s primary debate.
Speaking to NewsNation's Blake Burman on "The Hill," McDaniel mentioned Trump has previously signed the pledge for the South Carolina ballot. The R.N.C. now terms this pledge “the Beat Biden pledge.”
McDaniel stressed that participants should "support the will of the voters to do what is most important to every Republican in this country, which is beating Joe Biden."
Trump’s decision on attending the Milwaukee-based Republican primary debate remains unannounced. He has previously indicated reluctance to sign the required pledge. This situation presents a challenge for the R.N.C., balancing between appeasing Trump, a significant rating magnet and the apparent GOP nomination front-runner and upholding party authority.
This isn’t Trump’s first time leaving the GOP in suspense over the pledge. In the 2016 primary, he eventually signed a loyalty pledge but later withdrew his commitment.
