Joe Biden Addresses Son's Special Counsel Investigation: 'Up To The Justice Department'

President Joe Biden has expressed that the special counsel investigation into his son is a matter for the Justice Department.

Biden, on Friday, made his initial public comments on the appointment of a special counsel to supervise an investigation into his son, Hunter Biden. He said, "That's up to the Justice Department, and that's all I have to say," The Hill reported.

Last week, Attorney General Merrick Garland assigned David Weiss, the Delaware federal prosecutor leading the investigation into Hunter Biden, as a special counsel for the investigation. This happened as a plea deal for Biden concerning unpaid income taxes seemed to collapse.

Republicans have strongly criticized the tax probe’s handling into Biden, citing allegations from two IRS whistleblowers that Weiss was prevented from seeking special counsel status — a claim both Weiss and the DOJ have consistently denied.

The appointment of a special counsel has placed the President’s son back in the spotlight, offering more opportunity for Republican criticism and questioning whether Hunter Biden is receiving favorable treatment from the Justice Department. The White House officials and the President have consistently declined to comment on the probe and have firmly expressed that they will let the Justice Department proceed independently.
