Tesla Dashcam Records Rhode Island's 'Strongest' Tornado Since 1986 In Real Time — Driver Recounts 'Toughest Drive To Work'

A Tesla Inc. TSLA car’s dashcam reportedly captured the vehicle’s encounter with a tornado on Friday, documenting the tornado’s path, including debris hitting the driver’s side window.

What Happened: Randy Williams of East Greenwich was driving his Tesla to work when he encountered a Tornado zipping through the highway in Johnston, Rhode Island.

His dashcam recorded the tornado from several angles including of it passing behind his car and of debris smashing his driver’s side window. The Tesla dashcam records video footage of the vehicle’s surroundings, which is stored locally in the car’s USB drive.

“It was chaos,” Williams told CNN. “That was the toughest drive to work I have ever had.”

The tornado hit the backside of Williams’ car and moved him to another lane.

Another car was lifted 10 feet off the highway, the report added. The driver was shaken but unharmed.

Weather In Southern New England: The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-2 tornado in Rhode Island and said that it is the “strongest” to have struck the state since 1986. The weather service confirmed four tornadoes in total in the region and is investigating a potential fifth tornado in eastern Connecticut.

No injuries were reported despite severe damage to property.
