Elon Musk and Sam Altman, fellow co-founders of OpenAI agree with Quora CEO Adam D’Angelo, who thinks that artificial general intelligence (AGI) creation will be the "most important event" in the world's history.
What Happened: Pandora's box of artificial intelligence (AI) has been opened, and tech CEOs think that its evolution into AGI will be a defining moment for the world.

"It's so incredible that we are going to live through the creation of AGI. It will probably be the most important event in the history of the world and it will happen in our lifetimes," D'Angelo said.
D'Angelo's comment carries significance because he's the CEO of a platform that relies extensively on user-generated questions and answers. Since chatbots like ChatGPT and Bing Chat have shown they are good at answering questions, Quora could be impacted, too.
But on a wider scale, the impact of AI will likely be felt across industries and jobs.
OpenAI co-founders Sam Altman and Elon Musk agreed with D'Angelo, with Musk saying, "True. I hope it's nice to us humans."
What Is AGI: AGI refers to an autonomous, intelligent agent that can learn to perform intellectual tasks like human beings or animals. There's some fear about AGI because it could surpass human capabilities, especially in areas of economic importance.
Musk has repeatedly sought regulation of AI since back in 2017. "AI is a fundamental risk to the existence of human civilization," he said.
For now, though, AGI remains just a hypothetical intelligent agent, but each advance in AI takes us a step closer to achieving AGI. Whether it will happen or not is something that remains to be seen.
