Kevin McCarthy Says House Could Launch Impeachment Inquiry Against Biden As Early As September Unless...

A potential impeachment inquiry against the Biden administration is on the horizon, as House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) hints at its commencement in September unless certain documents are disclosed.

What Happened: As reported by The Hill, McCarthy raised the possibility of an impeachment inquiry during a recent interview with Larry Kudlow. McCarthy suggested this could be the next step if the Biden administration does not comply with Congress’s request for certain documents.

These documents, though not explicitly identified, are believed to be connected to allegations by Republicans that President Biden and his son, Hunter Biden, accepted bribes from Ukrainian officials. The White House has strongly dismissed these claims.

McCarthy stated that if the Bidens complied with the document requests, it would negate the need for an impeachment inquiry. However, if the documents are withheld, the House will move forward with the inquiry after returning to session.

“The thing that holds up whether we do impeachment inquiry, provide us the documents we're asking,” said McCarthy. "The whole determination here is how the Bidens handled this."

Why It Matters: The potential impeachment inquiry traces back to calls from former President Donald Trump and his congressional allies, who pushed for Biden’s impeachment as Trump’s legal challenges grew.

Notably, McCarthy announced that a key witness in the investigation into the alleged corruption of the Biden family had agreed to cooperate with the GOP-led House Oversight Committee.

The White House has previously dismissed impeachment threats as a desperate reaction to an improving economy under Biden’s administration.

The Biden White House has accused McCarthy of lying to support far-right House Republicans’ impeachment inquiry push.
