Rumor: iPhone 15 Charging Cable Could Be A Whopping 1.5 Meters Long!

Apple Inc.'s AAPL highly anticipated iPhone 15 lineup is expected to come with an extended 1.5 meters (nearly 5-foot) long charging cable.

What Happened: On Tuesday, Apple prototype device collector "Kosutami" shared an image of a USB-C to USB-C woven cable, hinting that the iPhone 15 will come with a "harder and longer" charging cable.

The leaker further stated that the tech giant would have to redesign the internal packaging to accommodate this fresh accessory.

The reason behind Apple’s rumored decision to offer a 1.5-meter cable instead of the standard 1-meter (3.2-foot) one remains ambiguous.

However, this increased length and the additional materials could contribute to greater weight and bulk for each iPhone shipment, potentially leading to escalated shipping expenses, according to AppleInsider.

Kosutami previously leaked reported images of Apple's braided and color-matched USB-C cables. Another report suggested that iPhone 15‘s USB-C port could support blazing-fast data transmission speeds allowing users to transfer enormous amounts of data at a much faster click.

Why It's Important: The iPhone 15 series is predicted to launch on Sept. 1, and Cupertino is expected to unveil four models — iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

The upcoming lineup will likely mark Apple's shift from the signature Lightning port to the universally compatible USB-C.

The existing iPhone 14 models with the Lightning port use the USB 2.0 protocol, which supports speeds of up to 480 Mbps. This is nearly 80 times slower than the iPhone 15’s rumored 40 Gbps transfer speeds.
