Three high-ranking House Republicans have voiced their “deep concern” over the potential national security threats from an alleged secret agreement between the Biden administration and Iran, The Hill reported.

The letter, signed by House Foreign Affairs Chairman Michael McCaulHouse Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, criticizes the deal for releasing $6 billion in frozen funds to Iran for the release of five American prisoners.

The Republicans have accused the administration of striking a clandestine nuclear understanding with Iran. They argue that the agreement would violate the 2015 Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act, which requires the administration to inform Congress about any decision concerning Iran's nuclear program.

The Biden administration has denied the allegations of tying prisoner exchange talks and fund release to nuclear discussions. It has also been revealed that the $6 billion held in South Korea from Iran’s oil sales will be released for the freedom of five Americans, who are currently under house arrest in Tehran.

Republicans criticize the deal, stating it could potentially fund Iran's military, which has seized U.S.-bound oil tankers and backed Syrian militias attacking American troops. They caution that the deal could also lead to more hostage situations.
